Two soldiers brazenly took plastic explosives out of Howe Barracks, Canterbury, a court was told.
A 36-year-old Colour Sergeant and a 27-year-old Lance Corporal from a Scottish regiment helped themselves to thousands of rounds of ammunition.
They were discovered after police raided a flat in Glasgow in February and found an identity card belonging to the Lance-Corporal.
When officers raided the barracks they also found plastic explosives in a holdall belonging to the Colour Sergeant. _________________

in our depot in germany i was in charge of the armoury and ammo stores, i slept in the armoury , and we also kept the ammo store keys there, i can not figure out how anybody, apart from the armourystoreman , can possibly gain axcess to arms and ammo, all weapons were well chained , and only myself and the qm knew where the keys were kept, the ammo store was deep in a basement of the old factory we used as a depot, and apart from myself and the qm again it was virtually impossible to get at the keys , apart from that it would have been impossible to walk about half a mile carrying ammo and not be seen, the biggest deterrent was for anyone daft enough to try it was a certain ,10 or 20 years in nick plus hard labour plus the inevitable, dishonourable discharge, the nick in germany in those days was beilefeld army prison, colchester and the mallet , were holiday camps in comparison , if you knew you could end up there , you did no wrong, believe me, ginger |
